Meet the team

Once upon a time there were two boys and a dinosaur who rowed for the University of York Boat Club. Their names were Laurence, Owen and Phil respectively. They used to compete all the time – on the rowing machine, at weights, at running…and also at drinking and even, sad to say, chasing the boat club girls.

After a few enjoyable years of this, they had to go and get jobs. They’d still meet up from time to time to reminisce about the good old days and banter about who was now the fittest (Laurence or Owen) or the fattest (Phil, every time). At one meeting it occurred to them that they were still competing, just like always – only the playing field had changed. Now, as well as sport-related competitions, they were competing at who had the best job or the best car. And it occurred to them that pretty much everything in life, even the really boring bits, could be made a whole lot more fun by turning them into competitive events*.

CompetitiveUrge.com was born. Laurence, Owen and Phil brought in Owen’s big brother Ben because he knows about website stuff, and is also handy for upping the ante with drunken post-board-meeting challenges. Gerry then joined the team, because he knows even more about website stuff, like how to actually build extremely complicated websites, and is also good at drinking.
